Fire at Eight Piece restaurant in Lake Zurich

No injuries were reported after a grease fire in the kitchen of a Lake Zurich restaurant that appears to have been started due to overheating food, village fire officials said.

Authorities said they were summoned Saturday morning to Eight Piece at 523 Ela Road. Officials said firefighters on arrival saw brown smoke coming from the restaurant's roof in the strip mall.

They said further investigation revealed the grease fire started in the kitchen area. The flames were quickly doused with a hand-held device and an extinguishing agent in the hood system.

The fire did not spread. A dollar loss has not yet been determined, and it is unknown when the business will reopen.
