Mount Prospect continues search for new village manager
Mount Prospect is moving slowly but surely toward hiring a new village manager.
Mayor Arlene Juracek said that next Friday, July 24, the executive recruitment consultant hired to help with the search will be sending trustees the resumes of 33 candidates for the position, which has been open since April, when the village reached a settlement to officially part ways with longtime manager Michael Janonis.
"We'll be meeting with (consultant Heidi Voorhees) the following Tuesday to discuss the packet," Juracek said.
From there, the board will determine which candidates to meet with and schedule interviews.
"In one scenario, I had interviews possible in the third week of August, but we're going to try and move that up sooner," Juracek said. "We're hoping to have the interviewing done by Labor Day."
Janonis served 23 years as Mount Prospect's administrator, but took a leave of absence in November for reasons that still have not been made public. In April, village trustees narrowly approved a separation agreement that guaranteed Janonis his salary until mid-September, as well as an additional lump sum payment and other compensation that together could total more than $200,000.
Shortly after, the board hired Voorhees' firm, Northbrook-based GovHR USA, to lead a search for Janonis' replacement. The village will pay the firm $18,000, including a $12,000 recruitment fee, $4,000 in recruitment expenses and $2,000 in advertising costs.
In the meantime, Assistant Village Manager David Strahl is serving as acting village manager.
