Elk Grove police arrest 12 during stepped-up enforcement

Elk Grove police made nine drug arrests and three arrests for driving without a valid license during an increased traffic enforcement period that concluded Fourth of July weekend.

In total, police say they stopped 544 vehicles and issued 549 seat belt citations, 10 child restraint violations, 31 tickets for using a cellphone while driving, seven speeding violations, 18 other moving violations, in addition to other equipment, registration and no insurance violations.

The stepped-up enforcement from June 22 through July 5 was funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
