Florence rallies past Schaumburg Boomers

The Schaumburg Boomers could not hold a 5-0 advantage in a 7-5 loss to the Florence Freedom on Saturday.

The start of the contest was delayed by rain for more than two hours. The Boomers tallied 3 consecutive hits in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Kyle Ruchim notched the third hit to plate Willi Martin. Schaumburg extended the lead with 3 runs in the third, 2 of which crossed on a double from Martin. Florence evened the game with 2 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth before plating the winning run with 2 outs in the eighth.

Evan Boyd suffered the loss despite throwing three innings out of the bullpen in place of Peter Gehle, who tossed five innings. The Boomers, who were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth, collected 10 hits in the contest with 2 each coming from Martin, Alexi Colon, and Craig Massey.

Schaumburg (22-28) concludes the first half of the season at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
