Traditional food, modern music at St. Sophia Greek Fest in Elgin

Traditional dishes and modern Greek music take center stage at the 37th St. Sophia Greek Fest in Elgin.

The food and fun continue 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 515 Church Road. The festival includes live music, kids' activities, authentic Greek cuisine, and a Greek marketplace.

Along with classical plates such as gyros, moussaka and saganaki, the festival is adding a late night treat for hungry visitors. Each day at 9 p.m. as bands are playing, attendees' drinks from the festival's bar can be accompanied by Greek pizza topped with gyro meat, feta cheese and olives.

Greek band Chicago Rythmos performs Saturday, while the Agape Dancers perform throughout the fest.

Greek Fest offers drive-through food service. Come to the front driveway to order and workers will bring the meals to your car.
