Crews put out small electrical fire at Schaumburg Panera

Schaumburg firefighters put out a small fire at a restaurant on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

Firefighters were called to Panera Bread, 1140 Plaza Drive, around 6:45 p.m. for an electrical fire, Battalion Chief Richard Anderson said.

One of the letters in the restaurant's illuminated sign had an electrical short and caught fire, which melted the plastic cover on the sign, Anderson said. The plastic dripped down to the restaurant's awning, which also caught on fire.

The Schaumburg Fire Department is right across the street from the restaurant, and Anderson said the fire was put out quickly.

No one was injured, and the Panera Bread location remains open.
