Sports hypocrisy: JRW, deflategate
In the June 25 Daily Herald you ran an article about the suit that Jackie Robinson West has filed against Little League International. JRW's suit states that their title was improperly stripped from them and that the governing body has refused to provide the information used to make this decision. I hope you will continue to follow this story.
There are many things about this event that trouble me. However, there is one in particular that I would like to see addressed by you and other media outlets. That is the hypocrisy of this decision when looked at in the larger context of sports irregularities.
We are told that there were boundary issues regarding the home addresses of some of the players. If that is true, then the coaches and perhaps some parents are at fault. It has nothing to do with the quality of play by these young athletes that won them the championship.
We have also heard much during this same period of time about the so-called deflategate case involving Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. It appears to have been proven that footballs were tampered with and that Tom Brady, and others, were aware that they had been.
Someone please explain to me why grown men who tampered with equipment are allowed to keep their Super Bowl title while young athletes who played their hearts out and knew nothing about boundary disputes are stripped of their national championship.
Hypocrisy at its finest.
