Boomers fall to Greys 5-4

The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers could not hold a pair of 2-run leads in losing a 5-4 contest to the Frontier Greys on Thursday night.

The first two-run advantage came in the first inning. Willi Martin drove home his first run as a professional with a two-out single, scoring Mike Schulze, who extended his on-base streak to 24 games with a walk. Justin Vasquez followed with an RBI double, plating Alexi Colon. The Greys battled back, scoring in the seventh to tie the game. Schaumburg netted two in the bottom of the seventh to once again move ahead at 4-2. The first run crossed on an error after a bunt single from Michael Valadez while the second scored on a double from Jordan Dean. The Greys notched three in the eighth and were able to hold on for the decision.

Raul Jacobson allowed just 1 run in six innings in his third professional start for the Boomers but did not factor in the decision. Jacobson struck out 6 and did not walk a batter. Vasquez finished with 3 hits for Schaumburg and put together five in the series and six over his last three starts.

Schaumburg (18-24) continues its homestand on Friday night. Right-handed pitcher Eddie Cody (5-1, 2.33) is the scheduled starter for the Boomers against right-handed pitcher Tyler Vail (3-2, 4.46).
