Elgin man pleads guilty to sexual assault of child

An Elgin man will spend up to 12 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child he knew.

Jose R. Valente-Anaya, 30, of the 1600 block of Mulberry Lane, Wednesday accepted the prison sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Judge John Barsanti accepted the plea.

Between December 2008 and December 2013, Valente-Anaya assaulted the victim, who was younger than 13. The child eventually disclosed the assaults to her mother.

Valente-Anaya will have to serve at least 85 percent of his prison term. He will receive credit for at least 558 days he spent in the Kane County jail.

He will also have to register for the rest of his life as a sexual offender.
