Daily Herald editor describes paper's suburban roots to Palatine Rotary

Daily Herald Editor John Lampinen outlined the newspaper's 143-year history in the suburbs at a breakfast this morning hosted by the Palatine Rotary Club.

The newspaper was founded in Palatine in 1872 as the weekly Cook County Herald.

"We don't just cover the suburbs," Lampinen said. "We are part of the suburbs. Our mission is to help make the suburbs a better place to live, and our history is a history of working to further that mission."

The breakfast took place at the Red Apple Pancake House and Restaurant in Palatine.

Lampinen spoke at the invitation of program chair Scott Thompson and Rotary member Dr. Robert Steinberg.
