Couple to speak on being a Gold Star Family

On Monday June 29, the Veterans of LBS will present the Gold Star Mothers, an organization of mothers who have lost a son or daughter in the service of our country.

They are a Veterans Service Organization, established after WWI, in 1928, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1984. They continue to honor sons and daughters serving in our military through service to veterans and patriotic events. Gold Star Mothers are honored on the last Sunday in September.

Sandy and Bob Ochsner, parents of Green Beret Jim Ochsner, who died in Afghanistan Nov. 15, 2005, will talk about being a Gold Star Family. Sandy, vice president of America's Northern Illinois Chapter Gold Star Mothers, is a former U.S. Army WAC, military intelligence analyst with service in Japan. Her husband Bob, a former Green Beret, is the president of Illinois Gold Star Dads.

Join the Ochsners, and the Veterans of LBS, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, at the Lake Barrington village hall, 23860 N. Old Barrington Road, for their historical, patriotic speech about Gold Star Mothers. A light lunch will follow. All residents and businesses in Lake Barrington and surrounding areas are invited to attend.
