Bartlett Arts Fest this weekend includes music, kids art activities

The 13th annual Bartlett Festival of the Arts will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, outdoors in Bartlett Park, 700 S. Bartlett Road, Bartlett.

The festival is put on by Arts in Bartlett, a dynamic, all-volunteer tax-exempt organization that prides itself on presenting high-quality, yet affordable fine arts and fine crafts in this highly anticipated free annual event.

It is Bartlett's only juried fine arts and crafts show and features nearly 50 artists of all media. There is nonstop entertainment both days, with rock/folk music continuing until dusk on Saturday. There also is a food and wine tent.

A new feature of this year's festival is a free Historic Homes Walking tour at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. People should meet at the Log Cabin at the corner of Oak and North avenues in Bartlett Park for an hourlong tour of homes that have been received historical plaques from the Bartlett Historical Society.

Among other features of the festival is Young Art Appreciators, a "kids only" tent for children shoppers who can purchase art priced at $1, $5 and $10. Art will be labeled with the artist's name and booth number so parents can take children to meet the artist and learn about his or her technique. Artists accepted in the show are asked to donate a small piece or two and proceeds will go toward Arts in Bartlett programs for children.

In addition, there are Children's Art Activities led by the Color My World Teaching Artist in Arts in Bartlett's Center for the Arts.

And the festival has a World Tent with drumming circles and henna art, and a sit and knit a bit tent where people can relax and knit a row or two on the fiber art project to be installed during Bartlett Heritage Days, Sept. 11-13.
