Mt. Prospect officer reaches 300 DUI arrest milestone

The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists has recognized Officer Joe Ziolkowski of the Mount Prospect Police Department for arresting the 300th intoxicated motorist in his career.

The milestone, which was celebrated at last week's village board meeting, has been attained by only one other Mount Prospect officer in the department's history.

"Officer Ziolkowski's overall performance day in and day out is truly representative of his dedication to the Mount Prospect community and the professionalism with which he serves," said Chief Tim Janowick. "The milestone of his 300th DUI and the recognition of his DUI enforcement practices underscores the commitment he has demonstrated to making our village roadways safe for all our residents and visitors."

Ziolkowski will also be recognized by the Illinois Department of Transportation for his efforts. Also being honored by IDOT will be Officer Seth Santi for 75 DUI arrests, Officer Nicholas Mavraganis for 50 DUI arrests and Officer Zachary Falco for 25 DUI arrests.

Ziolkowski is a 25-year veteran of the department and is currently assigned to the afternoon shift in the Patrol Section.

Over his career, he was named the 2002 Officer of the Year and was a runner-up in 2007, 2000 and 1994.

He was recognized by AAIM in 1995 and 1997 for his efforts in arresting intoxicated motorists. He was also presented with the Cook County Sheriff's Award of Merit for Outstanding Service and Professionalism in 2007.

Ziolkowski also is the coordinator of the department's bicycle unit and holds specialty positions as a Breathalyzer test operator, a training officer and crime-free housing officer.
