Car-inspired art is at Dandelion Gallery

Submitted by Waukegan Tire & Supply Inc.

A unique collaboration between Waukegan Tire, a long-standing, family-owned business, and the Dandelion Gallery in downtown Waukegan is being showcased in an innovative art exhibit called the Waukegan Tire Art Collective.

The exhibit will be on display at Dandelion Gallery, 109 S. Genesee St., through July and will feature artistic works inspired by the automotive industry and Waukegan Tire.

Both artists from Dandelion Gallery, as well as other local community artists, have artistic creations on display made using a variety of media and techniques, including using reclaimed or repurposed materials provided by Waukegan Tire.

For example, Lorinda Murphy has made one of her signature inventive guitars titled "CARtune" utilizing all automotive parts. Noreen Cashman has created two colorful and playful chairs made from hubcaps. Gary Goza's colored pencil drawing, "The Collection," illustrates 36 cars on tan paper and is so realistic that it appears three-dimensional.

Featured artists include Carolyn Abramofsky, Sandra Bacon, Tom Bartlett, Noreen Cashman, Leisa Corbett, Gary Goza II, Frank Fitzgerald, John Kirkpatrick, Maggie Schwarz Kraus, Lezlie Lenz, Lorinda Murphy, Mary Neely, Bob Nonnemacher, Peggy Raasch, Susan Schneider, Brent Schultz, Roger Shule, Rose Staben and Rebecca Stahr, among others.

Gallery hours are by appointment; call (224) 627-6039. The Waukegan Tire Art Collective will be open during Scoop Waukegan from 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 10, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 11, and continues through the July ArtWauk from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 18.

"We are humbled Dandelion Gallery asked us to collaborate on this project, and are proud of Waukegan Tire's longtime commitment to the community, including support of the arts," said Jerry Nerheim, Waukegan Tire founder and CEO.

"The arts are a powerful way to transform communities and we are excited to see all the great things happening right here in Waukegan."
