Elgin gunshot victim identified

Authorities identified Elgin resident Rueben Duncan, 31, as the man who was found Sunday in Elgin with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

An autopsy performed Monday confirmed the gunshot wound as the preliminary cause of death, according to the Kane County coroner's office.

Elgin police officers found Duncan while conducting a well-being check at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Sherwood Avenue. Duncan was pronounced dead at 5:59 a.m., according to the autopsy report.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, Elgin Police Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said. As of 4:30 p.m., no other updates were available.

The coroner's office is working with Elgin police and fire departments in the investigation.
