Pedestrians struck by car in Palatine remain in hospital

A pair of Palatine residents struck by a car Monday night while crossing a village street remained hospitalized Tuesday, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Cmdr. Craig Lesselyoung said the pedestrians, a 52-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, were hit as they were crossing North Smith Street at its intersection with West Brandon Court at 7:06 p.m. Monday. They were taken by ambulance from the scene to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

A witness who saw the crash from a car said the pedestrians were either in or near the crosswalk when they were struck by a Toyota convertible, Lesselyoung said.

The car's driver, a 59-year-old Lake Zurich man, immediately stopped and cooperated with officers investigating at the scene, police said. He was not injured in the crash.

Lesselyoung said no tickets have been issued yet because police have not yet spoken to the pedestrians. He expects officers would speak to them when they were discharged from the hospital. It is not known if the pedestrians knew each other.
