Girl on life support after accident at Warrenville fitness center

A young girl remains on life support after she was pulled from a pool at a Life Time Fitness facility in Warrenville.

According to Warrenville police, police and fire units responded to the Life Time Fitness on Diehl Road at approximately 2:20 p.m. Thursday.

Police said units arrived after the fitness center's staff found the 4-year-old unresponsive on the bottom of a swimming pool.

Police said the child was recovered from the pool by Life Time Fitness staff prior to emergency units arriving. The child was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where she was reported in critical condition.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed this was an accident.

Life Time Fitness Director of Public Relations Natalie Bushaw said the outdoor pool was staffed by lifeguards, and staff responded to the medical emergency.

"We also are conducting an internal investigation to gather additional details presently," Busahw said in a statement Saturday afternoon. "Above all, our thoughts and prayers are with the child and family at this time."
