Grayslake photographer takes first place at Schaumburg art festival

The work of photographer Dwight Lohman of Grayslake took first place at the 28th annual Prairie Arts Festival held over Memorial Day weekend in Schaumburg, the village announced.

Held every year on the grounds of the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, the Prairie Arts Festival featured the work of 120 juried fine artists from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin. Artists showed work in a wide array of media, ranging from painting and drawing to digital, jewelry, photography, pottery, woodworking and more.

Glass artist Nick Galatte, of Monee, Illinois, took second place, followed by woodworking artist Shawn Denman, of Inverness, who received the third-place award.

Merit Awards were given to Sue Dix of Hoffman Estates (pottery); Richard Dlugo of Western Springs (woodworking); Dawn Donati of Westchester (glass); Jeff Foernssler of Hoffman Estates (woodworking); Sandra and James Kamp of Carol Stream (jewelry); Scott Maki of Escanaba, Wisconsin (drawing); Rhonda Shouf of Palatine (watercolor) and Natalya Sots of Schaumburg (sculpture/pottery).
