Headline unfairly labels cop shooting

The headline, from the Sunday, May 31, edition, read "Man shot by police during rescue attempt." Can you get a more misleading headline?

This headline gives the impression that a trooper just randomly decided to use force and shoot an innocent man. One has to read past the headline to find out the trooper was attacked by the person he and other troopers were actually attempting to rescue from flooding.

Leave it to the AP to try to keep already high tension and strained relationships between police and the public alive by stoking the embers of distrust with this headline. What would have been wrong with the headline, "Man attacks cop as police attempt rescue?" Same amount of letters, more accurate description.
