Sewer work means lane closures on Rand Road in Mt. Prospect

An $8.8 million sewer project to relieve flooding in one of Mount Prospect's oldest neighborhoods will impinge on Rand Road drivers beginning next week, village officials announced Friday.

A-Lamp Concrete Contractors of Schaumburg is expected to begin installing 84-inch-diameter relief sewer pipe across Rand Road from the Frankie's Restaurant parking lot near Business Center Drive to Isabella Street.

The work will be in three stages, with the first two taking about a week each and the third taking about three weeks. Stage I will allow for one northwest-bound lane (reduced from two) and two southeast-bound lanes.

Stage II will allow for one northwest-bound lane and one southeast-bound lane. Stage III will allow for two northwest bound lanes and one southeast bound lane, with Isabella Street at Rand Road closed to all traffic.

The village has coordinated the work with an ongoing Illinois Department of Transportation Rand Road resurfacing project.

Village officials are asking motorists to use the posted alternate route via Route 83 and Central Road to avoid the area.

The project, which should be completed by November, includes the installation of approximately 6,600 linear feet of relief sewer on many of the streets in the Isabella neighborhood to provide better flood protection for about 800 single-family homes. The area suffered severely in a storm in 2011.
