East Dundee Trustee Skillicorn considering a run for 66th House

East Dundee Trustee Allen Skillicorn announced Thursday he is exploring a run for the 66th District state House seat.

"Illinois is basically upside down," he said. "There's nothing productive happening in Springfield."

Skillicorn, who is also the Kane County Republican vice chairman, cited high worker compensation costs and property taxes as large issues that are harmful to citizens.

"We need people that can get stuff done," he added. "In East Dundee, we get a lot done, so I have a pretty solid record there."

Republican Mike Tryon, current state representative of the 66th District, has held a House seat since 2005. He served as the McHenry County Board chairman from 1998 until his election in 2004.

Tryon could not be reached for comment Thursday.

In a news release, Skillicorn expressed his respect for Tryon, but said "a House member with energy is needed to thwart Speaker Michael Madigan's grip on the statehouse."

Skillicorn did not comment on when he would declare his candidacy.

"There is plenty of time for that," he said.

The 66th District includes parts of Algonquin, Crystal Lake, East and West Dundee, Lake in the Hills, Carpentersville and Elgin.
