Separating fact, fiction on climate

My comments are in regard to the May 6 letter by Thomas Carras. Mr. Carras asserts that we have experienced "global warming" for "quite a few years."

He further states: "In 2013, global temperatures were the warmest ever. Then in 2014. They broke that record."

Although the letter was published on the Opinion page and though each of us should be able to express his/her personal opinion, this is a serious issue. What reference does Mr. Carras offer as to how these temperature measurements were made, and what statistical confidence should be placed In them?

How "climate change" may affect the lives of people living on earth is a serious matter. Furthermore, the effects of governmental and economic policies which attempt to influence climate change could be even more detrimental than the phenomenon itself. Certainly your readers should have more details about this.

Or should we dismiss the whole issue with the old adage about opinions being like navels; everyone has one?
