Nine applicants seek Buffalo Grove village board seat

A pair of former Buffalo Grove village trustees and the onetime head of the village's information technology department are among the nine applicants vying for the vacant village board seat formerly held by Village President Beverly Sussman.

The list consists of Kurt Baier, Robert Giddens, John Green, Joanne Johnson, Bruce Kahn, Adam Moodhe, Edward Osmon, Frank Sears and Eric Smith. The person chosen will serve the final two years of the trustee post Sussman vacated when she was elected village president in April.

Giddens was the head of the information technology department until it was outsourced by the village. Kahn is a former trustee who now chairs the police and fire commission, and Sears is a longtime resident who has been vocal on planning issues affecting the Cambridge on the Lake development.

Smith is the head of the planning and zoning commission, on which Johnson - a onetime trustee candidate - also serves. Green is an architect with a history of projects in Buffalo Grove, including village hall and the Raupp Museum. He is also part owner of Progressive Management Group, the firm contracted to provide food service at the Arboretum Club.

Moodhe ran for one of three trustee seats at stake in April's election but finished fifth in a six-candidate field.

Osmon was a Buffalo Grove trustee in the early 1970s.

Sussman and trustees have not said when they expect to fill the open seat, but the village has indicated the board will review applicants during the month of June. The deadline for interested residents to apply for the post was Friday, May 22.
