Memorial planned for Hanover Park man killed in fall at concert

Friends and family of the 24-year-old Hanover Park man who died Friday after falling off a catwalk at a concert in Chicago will remember and honor his life at a memorial service at 5 p.m. Monday at Bartlett High School.

Kyle Kirchhoff died Friday after falling onto pieces of protruding metal around 10:30 Friday night at the Aragon Ballroom during a performance by the band Chevelle.

Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office say he suffered two chest wounds. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at Weiss Memorial Hospital.

Kirchhoff graduated from Bartlett High School in 2009, and received a bachelor's degree in sports management from Loras College in 2013, where he played football. After graduating from Loras, he spent one year as an assistant football coach at his high school alma mater, then coached last year at the College of DuPage, according to a Loras statement.

"Duhawk football has lost a great friend and teammate," Loras College Head Football Coach Steve Helminiak said in the statement. "Kyle was loved by his teammates and coaches alike, his impact on and off the field will be missed but not forgotten."

Kirchhoff was a four-year member of the Loras football program and two-year starter.

"Kyle always had a quick smile and was friendly to everyone he was around," said Denise Udelhofen, Loras' athletic director. "He will be missed everyday. Our hearts go out to his family as they grieve their loss."

An online memorial for Kirchhoff had raised more than $2,000 in a little over an hour.
