Streamwood marks Memorial Day with WWII memorial replica, candlelight vigil

Streamwood has a full lineup booked for its salute to veterans over Memorial Day weekend.

First is a candlelight vigil starting Saturday evening.

Overnight, guards will hold vigil, solemnly marching past the veteran's memorial next to village hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road. They will be relieved before a ceremony 11 a.m. Sunday.

After, view a replica of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., in the village board's chambers. Volunteers with Pillars of Honor, Inc. in Des Plaines bring the model across the suburbs to vets who may not be able to travel to D.C.
