A bicyclist was killed in an unincorporated area near Hampshire yesterday afternoon after it collided with a vehicle in the middle of an intersection, Kane County officials said. The crash happened at 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Walker and Allen roads, police said. Full story.

More than 30 departments respond to South Barrington house fire

More than 30 suburban fire departments helped fight a South Barrington house fire in the Crabtree Trails subdivision Monday afternoon. Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Chief Jeff Swanson said his department was alerted to a fire at 2 Windridge Road just before 1 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire in the attic. Former Carpentersville teacher charged with sex assault of minor

A former Carpentersville teacher has been charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a minor, Kane County officials say. Lindsay P. Anderson, 26, of Geneva is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated sexual abuse, according to a news release by the Kane County state's attorney's office. Fatal Palatine fire caused by electrical problem

Palatine fire investigators say an electrical malfunction is to blame for a fire Friday that killed a 63-year-old woman and injured her disabled daughter. Officials said yesterday the fatal blaze on the 100 block of Oak Street was accidental, having started in the bedroom of the 34-year-old special-needs daughter who remains in critical condition. Elgin murder suspect testifies he cleaned the crime scene, denies killing neighbor

Paul A. Johnson testified in his own defense yesterday that his half brother stabbed and killed Johnson's neighbor inside her Elgin townhouse in 2013 and he helped clean the crime scene with bleach and a rag to wipe away fingerprints. The trial moves on to closing arguments. Full story.

Golf course, lawns, park torn up in North Aurora

Trying to flee police, a Plano man tore up a golf course, lawns and a public park, North Aurora police said yesterday. Police were investigating a domestic disturbance at 12:40 a.m. Sunday on April Lane when a man in a pickup truck drove past with the headlights turned off. Full story.
