Golf course, lawns, park torn up in North Aurora chase

Trying to flee police, a Plano man tore up a golf course, lawns and a public park, North Aurora police said Monday.

Christopher B. Stankovich, 44, turned himself in to police Sunday evening. He is charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, and criminal damage to property, according to police. Both are Class 4 felonies.

Police were investigating a domestic disturbance at 12:40 a.m. Sunday on April Lane when a man in a pickup truck drove past with the headlights turned off.

Officers caught up to the truck on River Road (Route 25) near the Fox Valley Country Club, and signaled the driver to stop, police said.

But the driver pulled in to the driveway, lost control and spun out in the grass before driving through the golf course to Slaker Court, then between two houses and through Wingfood Park, police said.

The truck, a full-size 1995 Ford, was found 30 minutes later at its owner's house in Plano.

Stankovich lives on the 300 block of Dearborn Street in Plano.

He was also charged with domestic battery, improper lane use, improper signaling, and driving without headlights on.

Bail was set at $12,500. He must post $1,250 to be released from the Kane County jail.

Anyone with information about the incident, or those who have damage to their property, are asked to call police at (630) 897-8705.
