Waukegan Twp. offers support during Stroke Awareness Month

May is Stroke Awareness Month.

Waukegan Township Park Place will host a complimentary Stroke Support Group from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Park Place, 414 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan.

This free meeting is open to all residents. The speaker will be Phyllis Weiss, a stroke survivor and president of Stroke Survivors Empowering Each Other.

Weiss is passionate about being a voice of encouragement to other survivors and inspires them to never give up no matter how hard their journey is.

"Celebrate what you accomplish today - no matter how small," Weiss said.

Rehabilitation is a critical part of recovery for many stroke survivors. The effects of stroke may mean that survivors must change, relearn or redefine how they live. Stroke rehabilitation helps survivors return to independent living.

To RSVP or for event information, call (847) 244-9242 or email jnieves@waukegantownship.com.

Waukegan Township residents, should call (847) 599-2936 for free transportation at least five days before to the event date.
