DUI conviction means prison for Palatine man

A Palatine man whose background includes multiple DUI convictions was sentenced to prison in exchange for pleading guilty to an amended DUI charge, court records show.

Kenneth Sistler, 52, was sentenced to three years in prison and fined $4,479 in exchange for pleading guilty to aggravated DUI, a class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

Palatine police encountered Sistler on Nov. 8, 2014, after they responded to a call about an intoxicated man in a store parking lot at the corner of Reseda Drive and Hicks Road.

Authorities say Sistler drove off when police arrived. They followed and observed him swerving and turning sharply into oncoming lanes, prosecutors said during Sistler's bond hearing last year.

Prosecutors said at the time of Sister's arrest that he had three convictions for DUI, one in 1998 and two in 2006, one of them in Wisconsin. Additionally, Sistler was convicted of reckless driving in 1993 and received supervision for DUIs in 1987 and 1993, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.
