Larson begins 8th term as Schaumburg mayor

Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson began his eighth term Tuesday, sworn in weeks after a village election which favored continuity.

There was a moment of humor after Village Clerk Marilyn Karr, accidentally reading from the oath of office she'd just taken herself, asked Larson whether he promised to faithfully fulfill the duties of village clerk.

Having taken the oath so many times already, Larson caught the error and said "Village President" instead with a subtle emphasis and a slight grin as the audience at Tuesday's village board meeting laughed and Karr smiled.

Also joining them in new four-year terms were trustees Tom Dailly, George Dunham and Mark Madej.

With 28 years as mayor, Larson adds to his record as the longest-serving mayor in Schaumburg history. The legendary Bob Atcher comes in second at 16 years, 1959-1975.
