Palatine Historical Society presents annual Cemetery Walk

The Palatine Historical Society will present its annual Cemetery Walk from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, in Palatine's Hillside Cemetery on Smith Road in Palatine, just north of Colfax Street. This year's walk will showcase the lives of teachers buried at Hillside Cemetery and some of the presenters will be current modern-day teachers.

Some of the people included are Nelli Patten, who taught in a one-room school house; Minnie Hurd, who taught in the wooden six-room Wood Street School; and Harry Kincaid, who taught at Palatine High School. Old high school yearbooks, school books, class photos and report cards will be on display as well.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for Palatine Historical Society members, and $2 for children younger than 16. Tickets can be purchased at the cemetery on the day of the event. Tours will start periodically throughout the day, with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m. All profits from the event are used for the restoration of grave markers at Palatine Township cemeteries.

For information about the Cemetery Walk or the Palatine Historical Society, contact Palatine Park District's Museum coordinator Marilyn Pedersen at (847) 991-6460 or mpedersen@palatineparks.org.
