Kids at Hanover Park school flip over Jesse White Tumblers
The 600-plus student body at Ontarioville Elementary School in Hanover Park were treated to a performance by the Jesse White Tumblers Thursday. The school was awarded "Most Improved Readers" in the Dr. Jose Torres Community Summer Reading Challenge from last year. Torres is the former superintendent in Elgin Area School District U-46.
Students applauded and squealed with excitement as Tumblers soared through the air, doing flips over each other and Ontarioville Principal Elizabeth Ma during the 30-minute program. As Tumblers jogged back to their starting line, swarms of kids reached out their hands for high-fives.
Highland Elementary School in Elgin also received a visit from the Tumblers later in the day for having the most students finish the Challenge program based upon their school population.
This year's Challenge, "Read to the Rhythm," kicks off June 1. For more information go to u-46.org/pages/SDU46/News_at_U-46/Summer_Reading_Challenge.
