Algonquin home to two new restaurants

Algonquin residents soon will be able to eat at a new sports bar and a mom-and-pop-style Mexican restaurant on the west side of town and in downtown.

The Iron Horse Bar & Grill is expected to open sometime this month in the old Foley's Pub location at 3965 W. Algonquin Road, in the Prestwicke Plaza west of Randall Road. It is the same owner as that of the Thirsty Whale Bar & Grill, Inc., in Algonquin Commons.

The village has issued the business registration for the restaurant, approved the liquor license and inspected the building, said Russell Farnum, community development director.

“That particular space has been a restaurant for about seven years,” he said.

Foley's Pub had been in business there for three years. Before that, the site was home to Jimmy D's Neighborhood Inn, which closed in August 2011 after a liquor license violation.

The Mexican restaurant is looking to open in the former Main Street Billiards Cafe building at 113 S. Main St., in downtown. The pool hall has been closed for almost a year.

The village board will review the Mexican eatery's liquor license application at the May 12 committee of the whole meeting, Farnum said.
