Police: Skokie bank robber tried to hit Mount Prospect bank first

Police believe a man who attempted to rob a Mount Prospect bank Wednesday morning went on to rob a Skokie bank about an hour later.

In Mount Prospect, a man entered Chase Bank, 1190 S. Elmhurst Road, just before 11 a.m. and handed a teller a note, said Greg Sill, Mount Prospect Police Department's public information officer.

“The teller got distracted, and when the teller turned back to the person, he was in the process of walking out,” Sill said.

About an hour later, police say, the same man entered MB Financial Bank, 4801 Golf Road, Skokie, and passed a note to tellers. He didn't display a weapon, but the suspect kept his hand inside a blue duffel bag the entire time. He left with an unknown amount of money.

The robber's physical description and the baseball hat he's wearing matches video surveillance from both banks, Sill said.

He's described as a black male, dark complexion, large build, approximately 5-feet 10-inches tall wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with a “C” logo on the front, sunglasses, a black short-sleeved T-shirt and dark pants.

Police from Mount Prospect and Skokie and the FBI all are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Skokie Police Department at (847) 982-5900 or the crime tip hotline at (847) 933-8477.
