Theatre Nebula to stage 'Godspell'

The award-winning local professional company Theatre Nebula announces the revival of the musical "Godspell." By the composer of "Wicked," "Pippin," and "Children of Eden," "Godspell" has a limited engagement of three weekends, beginning May 9 and running through May 24.

"Godspell" will be presented at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays in Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center, 150 E. Wood St., Palatine.

"Godspell" was the first major musical theater offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. The musical features songs such as "Prepare Ye The Way of the Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side."

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a variety of games, storytelling techniques and a dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville is employed as the story of Jesus's life dances across the stage.

Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus's messages of kindness, tolerance, and love come to life in a heart-wrenching conclusion.

Theatre Nebula Artistic Director J. Spencer Greene said, "Many patrons loved our past hit productions of the musicals 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,' and 'Spamalot,' and were asking us when we are going to do 'Godspell.' We thought it was time to answer that question."

Theatre Nebula, known for their high production values and superior theatrical literature, continues with this classic original rock musical.

The Chicago area production team consists of director/choreographer Mark Mahallak ("Avenue Q," "La Cage aux Folles"); music director Evan Swanson; scenic designer J. Spencer Greene; costume designer Lisa Hale; lighting designer Steve Nickerson; properties designer Kristen Foley; and stage managers Tom Hermanson and Kristen Foley. Producers are J. Spencer Greene and Kathy Conick.

The cast includes Teresa Arnold, Mary Clare Becks, Marc Beth, Tyler Callahan, Becca Duff, Elise Floss, Brendan Foley, Jennie Goss, Kevin Goss and Shaina Summerville.
