Police: Bears' legend Richard Dent driving 107 mph on Edens

Bears Hall of Famer Richard Dent is in hot water after he was charged with driving 107 mph — 52 mph over the posted speed limit — in Northfield, police officials said Wednesday.

Dent, 54, of Long Grove, is charged with a class A misdemeanor for excessive speeding. He was driving a 2010 Range Rover and heading north on the Edens Expressway on Tuesday, April 28, at 2:13 a.m. when he was spotted at Winnetka Road, police said.

The speed limit there is 55 mph, police officials said.

Dent was pulled over north of Willow Road a short time later and taken into police custody. He was later released after posting a $2,000 signature bond, authorities said.

According to profootballhof.com, the Georgia-born Dent was selected in eighth round by the Bears in the 1983 draft. He amassed 137.5 career sacks as a defensive end, and had double-digit sacks in eight seasons. He led the NFC with a team record 17.5 sacks in 1984, led the NFL with 17 sacks in 1985, and was named the most valuable player in Super Bowl XX.

He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Dent is due in court May 15 regarding the charges.
