Fire damages house under construction in Palatine

A fire broke out Tuesday in an attached garage of a house under construction in Palatine, authorities said.

Fire crews responded to the construction site on the 500 block of West Helen Road at 3:52 p.m. and were able to bring the blaze under control in about 10 minutes, according to a news release from the Palatine Fire Department.

Three hose lines were used to fight the fire, with one dedicated to the garage, and another to the two-story single-family house to make sure the fire didn't spread, officials said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and remained under investigation.

Officials said buildings undergoing construction, demolition or renovation can be susceptible to fires because of open void spaces, exposed structural members and combustible materials on the scene.
