Man rescued from car submerged in Elmhurst lagoon

A man was hospitalized on Monday after being pulled from a car submerged in an Elmhurst lagoon, officials said.

The Elmhurst Fire Department was called around 1:30 p.m. to the lagoon at Eldridge Park, off Butterfield Road, because a vehicle was partly submerged, and the male driver still was inside the car, according to a news release.

A dive team - composed of members of Elmhurst police and fire departments and the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department - were able to pull the man out of the car; he was then taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. His condition wasn't yet known Monday evening, the release said. Police are investigating the incident.
