St. Francis concert to honor veterans

Although St. Francis High School's academic year ends before Memorial Day, the Spring Band Concert will honor veterans.

Band students will perform the concert, "An American Tribute," to honor veterans from each branch of the armed forces, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the school's Kuhn Cultural Arts Center, 2130 W. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton.

The concert's focus will be on music from 1776 to the present, featuring American favorites such as "The Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful," as well as some readings of poems and speeches set to music. Before the evening concludes, the band will play the music for each branch of service as veterans are asked to stand and be recognized.

The concert is free and will last about an hour and 15 minutes.
