'Regular person' Cardinal George takes final resting place in Des Plaines

Three hundred people or so gathered yesterday to lay Cardinal Francis George to rest at a Des Plaines cemetery. The burial service at All Saints Cemetery followed a funeral procession from Holy Name Cathedral and past St. Pascal Parish in Chicago, where George attended Mass as a boy and later was ordained a priest. Gurnee police investigating worker's ride caught on dash cam

Dashboard-camera video showing a Gurnee auto dealership employee driving nearly 100 mph in a customer's vehicle has led to an investigation by village police. Police Cmdr. Brian Smith said Thursday that officers learned the name of the mechanic who was behind the wheel of the vehicle that was in for service earlier this week at Gurnee Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram - and that the worker has declined to answer questions. Former Atlanta Braves co-owner dies in Barrington

A memorial service will be held next month for the former co-owner and president of the Atlanta Braves, who helped facilitate the 1976 sale of the team to Ted Turner. Daniel Donahue lived in Barrington for more than 60 years, even while serving as chief operating officer of the Braves. He died March 20, at the age of 91. Full story.

Gail Borden library branch coming to South Elgin

South Elgin is getting a library branch, officials announced yesterday. The estimated $1.4 million project by the Gail Borden Public Library District will come at no increased cost to taxpayers and was made possible by a donation by The Hoffer Foundation of South Elgin, officials said. Full story.
