Authorities: 4 hurt when driver fleeing Lombard police flips car
A vehicle fleeing police lost control in Lombard Thursday afternoon and flipped four times, injuring all four of its occupants, Lombard police said.
Lombard police initially were called around 3:30 p.m. about a person trying to break into a car at Yorktown Center, Lombard Lt. John Lavery said.
When police arrived, they spoke with the suspects and were in the process of running their IDs when the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed, Lavery said. It turned north on Highland Avenue and then east on 22nd Street before the driver lost control on the 700 block 22nd Street, he said.
“When it lost control, it hit a short median and then went up over that and flipped into the ditch,” Lavery said.
One person was ejected from the vehicle. All four were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.
Charges are pending, Lavery said, and nobody else was hurt in the crash. The road was shut down for two and a half hours while police investigated. Additionally, police are investigating a weapon found in the area but are currently unsure if it is tied to the suspects, Lavery said.
