Route 25 water main project gets under way April 27

The city of St. Charles is launching a large-scale project to replace a water main on North Fifth Avenue (Route 25).

The project, scheduled to begin Monday, April 27, is expected to be completed by September 2015. The city has retained Martam Construction as the contractor for the project.

Approximately 5,400 feet of water main will be replaced on Fifth Avenue (Route 25) between North Avenue and the south end of the Q Center property, just south of Country Club Road.

Also being replaced are water mains on Iroquois Avenue, between North Fifth and Third avenues, and on Allen Lane between North Fifth Avenue east to the dead end. These sections have a history of breaks; therefore this project will significantly improve reliability in all of these areas.

Work on the mains will cause interruptions of water service in the affected areas. Residents will be notified of any interruptions well in advance. There also will be traffic lane closures on North Fifth Avenue during the construction.

The anticipated working hours for this project:

• North Fifth Avenue (Route 25) between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.

• Iroquois Avenue between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Allen Lane between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Due to the scope, complexity and nature of this project, as well as the unpredictability of weather, some delays and disruptions may occur. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated.
