Car strikes home in Elgin, police find no driver

A car struck an Elgin home Tuesday, but authorities could not find its driver, officials said.

Around 5:53 p.m., police and fire officials responded to the intersection of Locust Street and Crystal Avenue for an accident where a car crashed into a house, according to a news release.

A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle was heading south on Jackson Street when it ran through a stop sign and hit a residence on the south side of Crystal Avenue.

When police arrived, they found no one in the vehicle, which had landed partially on the front porch. The 70-year-old homeowner suffered non life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
