Harper College to give glimpse of the cosmos Saturday for Astronomy Day

Whether the night sky is clear or cloudy, stargazers are invited to attend Astronomy Day at Harper College starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

If the skies are clear, the department's telescopes will be available for viewing a variety of celestial objects. But even if cloudy skies obscure the view of the cosmos, there will be a variety of programs throughout the evening.

Talks will be given on subjects including the life span of stars, the projects to put student experiments in space, and how our understanding of the cosmos changes as scientists push back the boundaries of the unknown.

There also will be educational programming for children throughout the event, which runs until 9 p.m. in Building Z on the college's Palatine campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road.

The event will be run by the Northwest Suburban Astronomers and the Harper College Department of Physical Sciences.
