Vernon Hills man faces computer fraud charge

A 50-year-old Vernon Hills man is accused of illegally tampering with his former employer's computer network.

George N. Turner is facing federal computer fraud charges after being indicted earlier this week.

Prosecutors said Turner worked as manager of information technology for a Northbrook-based company for more than seven years, but his employment ended in March 2014. Turner is accused of illegally accessing the company's email accounts in April 2014 and a month later accessing the company's system again and causing "significant damage" to the company's servers. According to the indictment, Turner is also accused of sending emails that contained company payroll information, executive bonus details and company pricing schedules.

Turner faces a maximum of 10 years behind bars if convicted. Prosecutors are also seeking computers Turner is accused of using to commit the crimes.
