Man dies after being trapped in machinery in Elk Grove Village

A man died after becoming trapped in a machine Wednesday afternoon in Elk Grove Village, fire officials said.

Elk Grove Village firefighters responded to the call just before noon at ACME Industries, 777 Chase Ave., for a man who was trapped within a machine, Elk Grove Village Lt. Nathan Gac said.

“He was fully entrapped in that machine,” Gac said. “Our crews were able to get him out in roughly 10 minutes, but unfortunately, he had died prior to his removal.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cook County medical examiner's office, Gac said.

ACME Industries provides equipment manufacturers with large machine parts and assemblies in the oil and gas, transportation, mining, construction, military and aerospace industries.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death and said identification of the victim is pending notification of the next of kin. An examination is scheduled for tomorrow, where they'll determine if an autopsy will conducted, medical examiner's officials said.

The death remains under investigation.
