MCC president to retire

The McHenry County College president announced last night that she will retire at the end of this year. Dr. Vicky Smith, who began as president in August 2010, will retire Dec. 31, she told the board of trustees. Full story.

College of DuPage officials met with media members yesterday to fend off criticism that vendors for the Glen Ellyn-based college have benefited by having representatives on the school's foundation board. Popular downtown Wauconda wine shop to close

Bliss Wine & Gifts in Wauconda will close after six years. Owner Maria Weisbruch said she plans to spend more time with her family. Bliss will serve its last customer May 30. The store opened in May 2009. Full story.

Buffalo Grove sees small dip in crashes, new most dangerous intersection

Buffalo Grove saw a small decline in the number of traffic crashes in the community last year, as well as a change at the top of the village's annual list of most dangerous intersections. Topping the list of most dangerous intersections was Buffalo Grove Road and short Aptakisic Road, which saw 24 crashes last year, including six involving reported injuries, officials said. Naperville woman planting seeds for organic farm network

Veronica Porter is starting an organic farm-to-Naperville initiative beginning with a 5-acre farm in the Sugar Grove area and potentially a 10-acre site in Oswego, she said. Veterans Victory Farm will provide jobs for veterans, especially those with traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder, and others with "hidden disabilities." Full story.

Cubs rally to win in the 10th

It may not be pretty, but sports writers say it sure is fun to watch the Cubs these days. Especially if they pull off a win in the bottom of the 10th like they did last night at home against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs came from behind a couple of times to win 7-6. Full story.

Bulls deliver dagger to Nets' playoff hopes

The Bulls put it together pretty well yesterday at Brooklyn, rolling to a 113-86 victory at the Barclays Center. The Bulls (49-32) clinched homecourt advantage in the first round with this victory. Full story.
