Gemini Junior High School presents 'Middle Class'

GEMINI JUNIOR HIGH PRESENTS BRAD SLAIGHT'S MIDDLE CLASS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Des Plaines, April 13, 2015) - "I'm tired of fitting in just to fit in," confesses one character in Middle Class. "It's time I started being who I want to be, not what others think I should be." Gemini Junior High students will bring playwright Brad Slaight's look at the tumultuous junior high years to the stage this month. Performances are scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. - both at Apollo Elementary School's Galaxy Theater, 10100 Dee Road, Des Plaines.

Directed by Drama Teacher Kathy Martin and Language Arts Teacher Jordan Smith, the 16-member cast takes on numerous roles, offering insight (often humorous, sometimes poignant) into the issues facing young people during the complex transition from grade school to high school. "Our student cast has been working really hard on the show," notes Martin, who has been directing the spring play for three years. "They're extremely creative and bring a lot of ideas and energy to the process - and I think our audience will be impressed by what these 7th and 8th graders are capable of." Cast members include: Ilayda Bakirdan, Angie Brito, Jessica Espinoza, Abbygayle Garcia, Vanesa Garic, Suzan Georges, Jigisha Gohel, Angelina Hermiz, Keiko Maas, Razeena Matani, Margot Mattenson, Eleni Omiriadis, Joelle Rihani, Lena Salem, Amanda Schaefges and Thushara Thomas.
