Heart Of A Marine Foundation, Valor Ball celebrate 10 years

On Saturday, Feb. 21, The Heart Of A Marine Foundation hosted the 10th annual Hearts of Valor Ball at the Marriott Schaumburg. The Hearts of Valor Ball is a celebration of military service and sacrifice, honoring all branches of the United States Armed Forces, veterans from all conflicts, and presents special reverence to our KIA's, MIA's, and POW's.

The celebration was twofold as The Heart Of A Marine Foundation and the Hearts of Valor Ball both turned 10 years old.

"We have accomplished so much in our 10 years," said Georgette Frank, president of The Heart Of A Marine Foundation and Gold Star Mom, "but there is more to do."

She added, "The needs of our veterans change, but our dedication to their well-being remains the same. We are ready for them, whatever they require. This mission is purposeful."

The keynote speaker for the evening was Pete Hegseth. Hegseth represents the next generation of America's leaders. An Army captain, Ivy League post graduate, national media contributor and advocate for our veterans, Hegseth's powerful message connected with the audience.

"What is needed in today's military and veteran environment, is found within The Heart Of A Marine Foundation and its supporters," Hegseth noted.

Hegseth spoke of true American heroes, and determination, and doing what is right for the future of our country. Five times in his 20 minute address he was interrupted by applause. With a final standing ovation, Hegseth said, "Get on board with The Heart Of A Marine Foundation. Be a part of what they are achieving."

"Be A Part of The Heart" was the phrase for the evening, and for the future. The Heart Of A Marine Foundation is going strong and will continue to meet the needs of our military, veterans and their families.

"What we are accomplishing is taking hold," said Roy Frank, co-founder of The Heart Of A Marine Foundation and Gold Star Dad said. "We see the difference we are making in the lives of our veterans. What a pleasure it is to bring comfort and encouragement to them."

The evening reflected the past as photographs and videos of years gone by were displayed. The future was represented by what The Heart Of A Marine Foundation has accomplished in 10 years:

• $300,000 plus (estimate retail value) in clothing donations to homeless veterans and military

• $207,170 plus in computers and software to aid in the treatment of traumatic brain injury

• $8,600 plus in ergonomically correct canes given to any service member in need

• $11,000 plus to upgrade and make living quarters a home for veterans

• 5,000 plus packages sent to military stationed overseas to boost morale

"This is only the beginning. Our past will shape our future," said Barbara Matsukes, director of Marketing and Public Relations. "We are dedicated and honored to serve our most deserving."
