Fire causes about $3,200 in damage to Batavia home

No injuries were reported in a fire that left a Batavia home with about $3,200 in damage Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Firefighters traced the fire to a smoldering squirrel's nest, built by the creature inside a motorized fan that ventilates the home's attic and possibly became overheated, authorities said.

Just before 1:30 p.m., firefighters were called on a report of an attic fire in the home on the 1200 block of Newton Avenue. The first crews to arrive found smoke pouring out of the roof vents, Battalion Chief Ed Jancauskas said in a news release.

It took firefighters less than 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Damage was largely contained to the roof. The homeowner's insurance company will be arranging repairs, the release stated.
